Hi, My name is Elizabeth Kyrus and I am a patient of Dr. Oppenheim. Can you please tell me the difference betwen Botox and Dysport, if one is better than the other to lift my brows and the cost for both?
Thanks!
Hello Mrs. Kyrus,
Both are Botulinum A products but there are some practical differences. Dysport has a few advantages and perhaps one major disadvantage. Its onset of action is a day earlier than Botox and it lasts longer, probably about one month longer ( in 20% of patients it lasted six months). It disperses more readily than Botox which, to me, is a good thing in the forehead but can be problematic in the glabellar area. In the forehead, Dysport can give a nice even result. However, I am reading about reports of lid drop with Dysport. This may be due to physicians treating Dysport the same as Botox; i.e. injecting into five areas, if they are used to doing with Botox. This brings the most lateral injection, close enough to the levataor muscle that some of the Dysport diffuses into this muscle, resulting in lid drop. Physicians should amend their injections and use only three points with Dysport and not the five they may be accustomed to performing. Nonetheless, even with this caution, I personally worry a bit more about a lid drop with Dysport. For that reason I like to combine the two neurotoxins, taking advantage of each’s positive attributes: Botox for the glabellar area and Dysport to the forehead.
We charge $9 unit for Botox and $4 unit for Dysport. ( Dysport units are counted differently). Dysport is slightly less expensive. From March 1- June 30, Dysport is embarking on a Love It Or Leave. giving patients a $75 rebate. In three months, if they decide to are re-treated with Dysport they receive a $75 rebate again or if they switch to Botox they nonetheless receive a $75 rebate.
Hope I have answered your questions, Mrs. Kyrus.
